ROLE SUMMARY
The Client Accounting Associate I supports the Client Accounting Services (CAS) team by performing foundational bookkeeping and accounting tasks that ensure data accuracy and process consistency. This position focuses on transactional preparation, documentation, and learning firm systems and workflows. Associates at this level work closely with Senior Accountants to maintain accurate books and efficient client processes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting Operations
- Enter and code daily transactions, including AP, AR, credit card, and expense activity.
- Prepare A/P payment batches and supporting documentation for review.
- Enter bills, payments, and deposits within accounting software.
- Maintain accurate and organized documentation for all assigned clients.
- Assist with basic journal entries such as recurring or template-based entries.
Reconciliations & Close Support
- Prepare and format bank and credit card reconciliations for review.
- Support the month-end close by gathering data, verifying balances, and updating schedules.
- Identify missing documentation or inconsistencies and communicate findings to the Senior Accountant.
Process & Systems
- Follow standardized procedures, checklists, and internal control requirements.
- Use firm-approved accounting tools and document management systems (e.g., QuickBooks Online, bill pay, payroll integrations).
- Maintain detailed records of tasks completed and workflows followed to support audit readiness and consistency.
Communication & Collaboration
- Draft internal and client-facing communications, such as document requests or status updates, for review by senior team members.
- Coordinate with team members to ensure deadlines and deliverables are met.
- Participate in internal meetings and contribute to discussions on workflow improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or combination of education and equivalent experience).
- 0-1 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience (internships or part-time roles welcome).
- Familiarity with accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks Online) and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
- Proactive communicator with a growth mindset and genuine interest in accounting.
- Comfortable working in a small, fast-growing firm where systems and processes continue to evolve.
- Dependable, resourceful, and motivated to contribute to a collaborative team culture.
GROWTH PATH
As skills and independence develop, the Associate I will progress toward managing recurring client processes and supporting month-end activities with greater autonomy.
Promotion to Client Accounting Associate II is based on demonstrating:
- Consistent accuracy in transaction processing and reconciliations.
- Understanding of the full accounting workflow from data entry through close support.
- Ability to manage tasks independently and communicate effectively with the team.
