Location: Bozeman, MT (In-Person or Remote)
Compensation: $28 – $35 per hour, DOE
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Part-Time Payroll Specialist will take ownership of payroll operations, ensuring accurate and compliant processing. The ideal candidate will bring 3-5 years of experience and a strong understanding of corporate shareholder health insurance, certified payroll, employee onboarding/offboarding, and benefits management. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Payroll Processing: Accurately process client payroll, including multi-state payroll when applicable.
- Compliance: Manage and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including certified payroll and ACA requirements.
- Benefits Administration: Coordinate employee benefits, including paid time off, retirement plans, and corporate shareholder health insurance.
- Onboarding/Offboarding: Assist in new hire setup and offboarding processes, ensuring smooth transitions.
- Data Integrity: Maintain employee records and ensure payroll data is accurate and up-to-date.
- Client Communication: Serve as the main point of contact for payroll-related inquiries from clients and employees.
- Reporting: Prepare payroll reports, including tax filings and benefit contributions, and assist with year-end processes.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience: 3-5 years of payroll experience, with knowledge of corporate shareholder health insurance and certified payroll.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with payroll systems such as Gusto, QuickBooks Payroll, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with payroll taxes, state-specific payroll laws (including Montana and Alaska over time), and benefits management.
- Attention to Detail: A high level of accuracy and ability to meet deadlines.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members and clients.
- Adaptability: Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a hybrid or remote environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with small business payroll operations.
- Familiarity with Canopy or other workflow management systems.
- Knowledge of best practices for onboarding and offboarding employees.
